Miss Teething

Posted on November 30, 2010

I’m not mentioning any names, but SOMEone’s been collecting some chubber-rolls since I last photographed her:

From day one, girl has been aware of everything around her… “Okay, lady, why on earth are you making those crazy faces at me…what are you doing with that flower headband… and what’s with this basket and the bright flashing lights?”   She knows a photo session is different than her everyday life… but she rolls with it.  She let me move her around and try different things as much as I wanted to.  She would let me know when she was ready to try something new and I was happy to pick her up and cuddle her between shots.  Such a sweet face, with a bunch of new hair to go with it.  Aaaand, her new teeth were busting through her gums as the session went on… she handled it like a champ.  She’s so pretty… here’s the classic ”My-Gums-Feel-Different” face.  I love it.

Baby toes?  Of course!

She liked when I said, “Gooooo??”  I’m not sure what it means, but in Babytalk… it means something funny, because it always gets a reaction out of babies.  (I just unveiled one of my best secrets.)

Take a closer look at that photo above, and you can see her new teeth coming out to play.

Another beautiful quality about her is very evident in this next photo… LUCKY GIRL!

I love her expression in this next one… and if you look closely, you can see the tiniest string of drool making it’s escape:

And I have to add one more because it has sentimental value.  This is the same necklace that her daddy wore when he was baptized as a baby:

To her mother: Whether you think so or not, you DO have it together, girl.  I enjoyed our chats during the session… you are always so cool and laid back.  I am already looking forward to your next session in January.  Thanks so much for being so extremely patient as you wait for your photos… they’ll be finished very soon!

Precious and Few

Posted on November 25, 2010

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  Ever since I was a kid, we have had this tradition of answering the phone by gobbling on Thanksgiving Day.  Doesn’t matter who is calling… no saying hello allowed.  We also take turns dancing with the raw turkey before we cook it. We’re crazy like that.  You may also think I’m crazy to be working today when most people are enjoying family time.  BUT, in order for me to REALLY enjoy family time later on today… I have to cross a certain amount of things off my long “Must Do” list.

After this, I plan to watch the Macy’s parade with my kids (I saved it on the DVR.)  Growing up, we always watched the big Macy’s parade and I would be so HOPING a giant balloon would get loose and fly through the city.  There is always at least one person struggling with those strings.  I’m pretty sure I remember a giant Garfield making his escape many years ago.  I may have to google that one, because there’s a good chance I had to resort to my awesome imagination to fullfill my longtime wish…. in other words, I may have made that one up.

Today, and every day… I am thankful for my days being surrounded by and filled wtih my biggest passions:  My babies, my family, and my job.   I am thankful for the pitter patter of my son’s little feet as he flitters around the house so fast, they barely touch the ground.  I am thankful for my daugher “reading” in the next room as I hear her say, “Thank you, God, for the princesses we have.”   I am blessed beyond words to have a job I truly love more than I ever thought possible.  I am thankful for my clients… meeting new faces and of course, the old reliables who have stuck with me and allowed me to watch your precious babies grow up on front of my lens. I am thankful for my faithful blog readers… those who leave comments and mention this blog to me in passing… and those who quietly lurk around here, leaving no clues of your presence.  I am thankful for all of you.

To show my appreciation, all prints are 2-for-1 from now until the end of the month.  This means you will recieve a free duplicate of every print you order.  Also, expired proofing galleries for ALL 2010 sessions are now accessible again for ordering until Christmas.  Email me at keri@kerikayphotography.com for your password if you have forgotten it.

Now, enough of my blubbering… let’s get to talking about my newest Sweet Pea member.

Precious and few are the fleeting little newborn moments… and precious and few were her moments of being still.  She was a little restless, but that just meant lots of extra snuggle time for me.  (I got my newborn fix on this day, for sure.  Thanks to her mommy for letting me scoop her up this sweet baby and snuggle her every two minutes.)  Between fusses, she did great.  She’s gorgeous… so tiny… so new…

Her mother had this great idea to have the baby lay on a pumpkin for her baby annoucements.  This was a big challenge that probably took at least 45 minutes to accomplish… but I’m not one to give up… I knew we would get it eventually… and when she finally gave in, she only gave us about two seconds… but we got it and it was worth it.  Isn’t that right, lil’ punkin?

…and she wins the award for Newborn-With-the-Longest-Fingers… I see some piano playing in her future.

Big sisters came along for some photos and they impressed me beyond words.  The girls have gotten to know my camera through the years as I began photographing little blondie when SHE was a newborn.  They did SO SO SO good.  I will have to post those pictures later so I won’t spoil any Christmas card surprises… plus, I wanted to make this post a tribute to their newest arrival.  Today, it’s all about the babe.

Looking at these photos, would you ever know she was restless?  There’s a clue in this next photo, as her headband needed to be fixed.  As soon as I settled her down, I grabbed the “just-in-case” shot and THEN I fixed her headband… which put her in a tizzy… so I’m glad I got the “just-in-case” shot.

Oh, sweet bowl of baby!

What a beautiful baby girl!!!  To her father:  I know how important football games are (my husband has trained me well) so I am SO proud that you were there for the photo session during an important game.  And you didn’t even look antsy at all, so kudos to you and I truly mean that!  To his mother: as always, it was great chatting with you, and I have grown to love your family to pieces.  I am thankful for wonderful clients like you, who become friends with me over the years.  Thanks for your patience… have a wonderful Thanksgiving and the rest will be finished soon!

Thumbs Up!

Much to my delight, Mr. Honey-Baked Ham himself, was back for another session.  Once again, he didn’t let me down.  He brought his signature wide grins and he was anxious to show me his new skills: sitting up and crawling.  My camera can’t get enough of this sweet boy.  I love how he looks RIGHT at my lens!  A photographer’s dreeeeeeam, he is.  Hey Parent’s Magazine?  If you need a new cover model, look no further.  This is your man, right here:

Check out this form (tee hee!):

You want extra honey with your ham?  Coming right up…

I love these wide grins!

So, what did you think about your photo shoot, little buddy?

To his parents: You guys are so cool.  It’s easy to see how much you love your little ham, and rightfully so… he’s scrumptious.  I hope you like these as much as I do!  Thanks for your patience… I’m having a great time working on these and the rest will be finished soon!

Little Thief!

Posted on November 16, 2010

Ummm… yes, I would like report a robbery?  It seems as if a very tiny someone has stolen a big chunk of my most vital organ.  He’s a heart thief!  Suspect is very tiny with blonde hair and sweet cheeks.  He was last seen leaving the premesis in a baby carrier.  Yes, I KNOW I shouldn’t have snuggled him so much… but he nestled in and got comfy in my arms… and  that’s when it happened.  I didn’t realize that anything had been stolen until he left my studio … taking that chunk of my heart with him.  I suppose I can survive without it… but only because I can look forward to seeing him again when he is 3 months old.  Ladies and gentlemen, guard your hearts because this one is dangerous.  All it takes is one look and you’re a gonner.  Look at these new-baby hands:

Look at his smooshy smoochers!!

Newborn feet are always red on the bottoms!  And I love how you still see where he had his little heel pricked in the hospital.  Ahh, newborn stuff!

Yay for baby bubbles!

To his mom (who looked way too good to have JUST had a baby… and who I also graduated high school with) and his dad (who quickly became one of my favorite new dads)… thank you so much for letting me snuggle your new little bundle of perfection.  It’s easy to see how proud you both are, with the love just sprouting out in all directions.  I am elated for you… and I hope you like your preview.  Your patience means the world to me. The rest will be finished soon!
