Like a Diamond | Spring Hill, TN Photography
Posted on July 30, 2011
If you frequent my blog, you’re used to seeing mostly babies grace my pages. Even though they are my specialty, it was very refreshing to jump outside and do a senior session on this day. Classically beautiful on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside, this young woman exemplifies everything that we want our kids to become. I must also mention that she has flawless skin that did NOT require ANY smoothing whatsoever. I love the contrast of her youthful beauty next to this old, decrepit church. She’s a diamond in the rough.
Soon she will fly out of the nest and into the “rough”… but I know she’ll do just fine. Because diamonds are STRONG.
(ooOOOOOoooo, I love the texture of these old WALLS.)
And like a diamond, she shines…
Her eyes were very sensitive to the light in the sky… I told her to rest them for a second, snapped a “what-the-heck” photo, and I love how it turned out…
I remember the exact moment I shot this last one. I yelled out, “New Facebook profile pic!!!” and she cracked up. I can see it looking perfect in that tiny little icon square, can’t you? She’s stunning!!
Keep on shining, you gorgeous diamond, you. I know this last year of high school is going to fly by ridiculously fast… and like you described your last basketball camp as ”Bittersweet”… the bittersweets will keep on rolling in as the year goes on. Soak them up and enjoy them…. and look forward to the BEST times of your life, which are just ahead. And since you love Coldplay, I have to toss you some quotes:
”You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or write a song nobody has sung
Or do something thats never been done” ~Coldplay, Talk
“If you never try, you’ll never know… just what you’re worth.” ~ Coldplay, Fix You
… And, no doubt, try and succeed you will.
Now, my personal favorite Coldplay line: “People moving, all the time, inside a perfectly straight line. don’t you want just curve away” ~Coldplay, Strawberry Swing
I hope you like your preview! The rest will be finished very soon!
Sugar Dumplin’ | Spring Hill, TN Baby Photography
Posted on July 27, 2011
This little dumplin’ brought extra sugar with him and I soaked up every last bit of it. If my dentist tells me I have cavities, I’m blaming this kid… it could easily happen from the mega sweetness that was exuding from his precious face. I like to make a BIG fuss over babies. As soon as they come into the room, I’m all up in their precious face. Well, he fed off of my praises and BEAMED at me… warm fuzzy overload! He’s a snuggle-dumplin too. When I held him, he liked when I put my face right up against his. Sugar Dumplin Snuggles are the best.
He immediately went to work at showing me his collection of expressions that he brought with him. He was, without a doubt, the most expressive 3-month old I have ever photographed. And, although I notice personality at every age, his was definitely advanced… almost more than his little body could hold. Kiss, kiss?
Simply put, he’s a hoot. And that’s what I shall call him from now on. HOOT.
Even this next expression says a lot. Maybe we should have a caption contest about what he’s thinking… ha!
All of that entertaining really wore him out, though. Without a single fuss, he decided to count some sheep.
One of my favorite details about him is his little crease between his chin and mouth. So perfect.
The photos above are from nap # 1. The photo below is from nap #2. At the end of the session, his mother wanted to get some quick shots of him wrapped in the blanket his great-grandmother made him. As she was wrapping him, she said, “This is how I wrap him to go to sleep every night and -” before she could even finish her sentence, he was asleep. Like a magic trick. Boom. Burrito him up and he’s out like a light. This boy is incredible.
And, in case you’re wondering if this Sugar Dumplin wakes up happy… here’s your answer:
What a BEAUTIFUL baby. My heart goes nuts over that photo, so I can’t imagine what it will do to his parents and grandparents!
To his mother: It’s easy for me to see how much you love him and even easier for me to see why. He loves to make people happy and he’s going to continue to do so even more as he grows. I’ll never forget that moment during your session when I looked over at you… and you had tears in your eyes and your hand on your heart. You didn’t even need to explain to me. I knew exactly what you were feeling. I’m so glad you’re allowing me to freeze these little moments for you to remember forever. These little ones grow up way too fast. ***Swallowing the giant lump in my throat***

Pile of Baby | Spring Hill, TN Baby Photography

Look at this adorable little pile of baby:
He lets me hold his little round face in my hands. I just can’t help myself around these sweet cheekers.
Looking a little too grown up with that expression (above) so I told him to lay down and do some baby things:
Although he was content, he wasn’t in much of a smiley mood, which is absolutely fine. Especially when you have a face like this. Hello down there, you squooshy little munchkin man:
I’m pretty certain it’s the boys that get the longest lashes. He’s looking extra baby-like in this one, which I love:
At 7 months old, he had such a mellow and laid-back demeanor. A real go-with-the-flow attitude. Until you put him in a crate, that is. Omigoodness, stop EVERYTHING and give him the WORLD. Right now.
Don’t you just want to scoop him up? So, crates aren’t his thing… but no matter what… he takes precious to a whole new level, and you can’t help but love the little guy. This last photo is proof that he knows he’s cute:
To his mother: I must have said “I love his FACE” at least 100 times during your session, but a mama never tires of hearing that about her own baby, huh? I am always excited to see him and his sweet expressions. And of course, I love holding his face in my hands. Thanks for another great session… I love hearing you laugh the whole time. I hope you like your preview and the rest will be finished soon!
Work It {Spring Hill, TN Maternity Photography}
Posted on July 20, 2011
I did not hire a maternity model for this photo shoot. She just looks like one. In fact, when this beauty of a mama-to-be walked into my studio, she was actually a bit nervous. So, I did what any photographer would do to lighten the mood: My Silent Ninja Jump. Few have seen it… many have inquired. But only certain moments truly call for it. (Future clients may put on fake nervousness now, ay?) Anyway, if she didn’t tell me she was nervous, I NEVER would have guessed it. She modeled like a pro. And just LOOOOOK at this perfect basketball belly:

The maternity silhouettes in front of this window NEVER… NeverNeverNever… get old. Every shape is unique, so each image is unique. And on this day, it was rainy and the decorative lights on my ceiling reflected in the window giving it a sort of… magical look. I like magical, and I love what her hair is doing.
Now, just for funsies… I took the fourth image (above) and used the new frame from The Coffeeshop Blog. It gives it a completely different look. Me likey long time.
To the stunning mama-to-be… it was SO nice to meet you and your MTSU-loving husband. Go Blue Raiders! I can’t wait to meet your sweet newborn VERY soon! I hope you’re feeling well and I wish you the best of luck with the remainder of your pregnancy. I hope these photos prove to you how beautiful you are. The rest will be finished very soon!
